The Music of Middle Earth – an Analysis on the Use of Music in the Film: “the Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring”

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was the first movie in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, based on the popular fantasy books written by J.R. R. Tolkein. The movie was a blockbuster hit at both the box office and at the Oscars. The story, in and of itself, is creative, captivating and magical. But even a wonderful story can flop when put onto the big screen. Cinematography, special effects, visual effects and the quality of acting all play an important part in making a story “live” for an audience. Music also plays a vital part in making a movie successful. Music can make us feel that we are in another place and time. It captures our emotions by creating an ambiance of happiness, sadness, tension, fear or excitement. Music helps suspend our disbelief about the fantasy of the story. It helps us identify with distinct characters, places and cultures. The music of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, does all of these things. Through music, composer Howard Shore successfully takes us to Middle Earth.

Robin Hood – Epic Film

Robin Longstride (Russell Crowe), is a common archer in the army of King Richard. Lionheart (Danny Huston) during his 10-year crusade to the Holy Land finds his army badly demoralized, Richard is headed back home; sacking every French castle they cross to fund their retreat.

After Lionheart is killed in battle, Robin and his merry men decide that 10 years is more than enough service to the crown, and ditches the army for home. On their way back to Jolly old England, they run across a French ambush led by the duplicitous Englishman Godfrey (Mark Strong), and the badly injured Sir Robert Loxley.

In a moment of weakness, Robin agrees to take the dying Knight’s sword home to his father. Prince John (Oscar Isaac), the next in line to the throne, greets news of his brother

Richard’s death with less than Princely jubilation. Immediately, John assigns Godfrey, unaware of the man’s treachery, to begin collecting owed taxes by any means necessary.

Godfrey does this by bringing over French raiders to sack English towns, quickly turning the country’s Lords against their new King. Meanwhile, Robin arrives in Nottingham, where he delivers the sad news to Sir Walter Loxley (Max von Sydow) and Robert’s beautiful and suffering wife, Marion (Cate Blanchett), who only knew her husband for one week before he went off to the Crusade.

The Goonies Is A Film Worth Watching

Goonies Forever! If you grew up in the eighties, then no doubt you have fond memories of watching this movie over and over until the VHS tape finally wore out and snapped. If you haven’t seen it yet for whatever reason, think of it like… Captain Blood meets Indiana Jones meets Stand By Me meets Goodfellas. It really does have a little something from everything in terms of movie genres, and it’s definitely a classic as far as movie downloads go.

The movie follows, who else, The Goonies. This gang of misfits, led by Mikey Walsh, is known around the city of Astoria, Oregon for always getting into some sort of trouble. The story really kicks off when the rich folks in town decide to buy up the neighborhood to convert it into a golf course. The city of Astoria is really gorgeous, and it’s too bad that it only features prominently in the first act of the film before it gets into the cave-dwelling adventure stuff.
