Movie : Movie Quality

Actually for me the quality of movies is getting better. Especially British movies, in the last year alone, Hot Fuzz, Atonement, and now Stardust, all very different films but with some very good casting and writers to boot.

I am a great movie fan, but have found the music of these films can also affect my view of a film.

The film Stardust has produced the most wonderful haunting soundtrack from the group Take That “Rule the World” and although I have not seen the film, I just know I will love the movie. As my all time favorite actress and actor are both in this film “Michelle Pfeiffer & Robert De Niro”.

The film that I have seen recently that made me come out much lifted was Mamma Mia and that was done on a shoestring budget, but I have to say it was the most wonderful film and so uplifting and I could not stop singing Abba songs for the rest of the evening.

I don’t think we have lowered our standards either in the British or American movie industry, I think the job is not an easy one, as you are catering for the masses and what movie may please one part of the population, it will not necessarily please the other. I just cant believe the imaginations of some of the writers, and if we think about the Harry Potter series of films, amazing, awesome and the same for Lord of the Rings, although it has to be said I am not a great fan of these particular types of movies, but the Harry Potter range of movies left me spell bounded (sorry for the pun).

I am a great fan of the old movies which included Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Olivia de Havilland and Ginger Rogers, Kathryn Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Doris Day and some very fine actors who played opposite them, Cary Grant, Edward G Robinson, Spencer Tracy etc etc…. There you have a league of truly professional stars but now we have the technology to promote films in a completely different way, creating fantasy and visual effects.

We have moved rapidly forward in film making and our expectations as film buffs is probably a lot higher.

The movie industry has to cater for a wide spectrum of film goers and everyone’s taste is different.

With technology so advanced now we always expect more and more.

I also feel that with the introduction of all these advanced games now there is a new breed of film making coming through which from my point of view is very dark and violent.

I feel that the movie industry copes admirably; my one criticism is the high cost of cinema tickets.
